CTET vs REET — Difference, Eligibility, Syllabus, Which to Take?
CTET vs REET comparison: eligibility, syllabus, exam pattern, validity, and which exam to take. Both are teacher eligibility tests but for different scopes.
CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) and REET (Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers) are both Teacher Eligibility Tests (TETs) but differ in scope: CTET is national (valid for central government schools like KVS, NVS, DSSSB), while REET is state-level (valid only for Rajasthan government schools).
KEY DIFFERENCES: CTET is conducted by CBSE, valid across India for central schools. REET is conducted by BSER Rajasthan, valid only in Rajasthan. CTET certificate is valid for lifetime (since 2022 notification). REET certificate is valid for 3 years. CTET follows NCERT syllabus strictly. REET includes Rajasthan-specific content (geography, history, culture, government schemes).
SYLLABUS COMPARISON: Both have similar structure — CDP + Languages + Subject. CTET Paper I (Classes 1-5): CDP (30Q) + Language I (30Q) + Language II (30Q) + Mathematics (30Q) + EVS (30Q) = 150Q. CTET Paper II (Classes 6-8): CDP (30Q) + Language I (30Q) + Language II (30Q) + Math-Science/Social Studies (60Q) = 150Q. REET Level 1 & 2 follow nearly identical pattern but include Rajasthan GK and state-specific content.
WHICH SHOULD YOU TAKE? If you're in Rajasthan and want to teach in Rajasthan government schools → REET is mandatory. If you want options across India (KVS, NVS, DSSSB Delhi) → take CTET. Best strategy: take BOTH. 80% syllabus overlaps, so preparing for one automatically covers most of the other. Our PYQ bank covers topics common to both REET and CTET.
CTET 2026 UPDATE: CTET exam is typically conducted twice a year (July and December). The CTET 2026 notification is expected soon. If you're preparing for REET, you can simultaneously prepare for CTET with minimal extra effort — just add NCERT-specific content to your preparation.
