REET Level 1 vs Level 2 — Complete Comparison
Detailed comparison of REET Level 1 and Level 2: eligibility, syllabus, salary, age limit, and which one to choose.
REET Level 1 is for those who want to teach Classes 1-5 (Primary Teacher/Third Grade Teacher). REET Level 2 is for Classes 6-8 (Upper Primary Teacher). A candidate can appear for both levels in the same exam cycle.
ELIGIBILITY: Level 1 requires Senior Secondary (12th) with 50% marks + 2-year D.El.Ed/B.El.Ed OR 4-year B.El.Ed OR 2-year D.Ed (for special education). Level 2 requires Graduation with 50% + B.Ed OR equivalent. Age limit: 18-40 years (relaxation for reserved categories).
SYLLABUS COMPARISON: Level 1 — Child Development (30Q) + Language I (30Q) + Language II (30Q) + Mathematics (30Q) + Environmental Studies (30Q) = 150 questions. Level 2 — Child Development (30Q) + Language I (30Q) + Language II (30Q) + [Mathematics & Science OR Social Studies] (60Q) = 150 questions. Key difference: Level 1 has EVS instead of subject-specific section, and Math+Science are separate from Social Studies in Level 2.
SALARY AND CAREER: Level 1 (Third Grade Teacher, Pay Level 11): Starting salary approximately ₹23,700 (basic). With DA and allowances, take-home approximately ₹30,000-35,000. Level 2 (Third Grade Teacher, Upper Primary): Same pay scale initially but with promotion opportunities to Second Grade and First Grade teacher with higher pay. Both levels offer government job security, pension, and other benefits.
WHICH ONE TO CHOOSE: If you have B.Ed, appear for BOTH levels — this doubles your chances. Level 2 Social Studies is considered slightly easier to score in because it has a lot of Rajasthan GK which can be memorized. Level 2 Science-Math is considered harder due to conceptual questions. Our platform currently focuses on Level 2 PYQ content with 1,070+ questions across 7 subjects.
